Jane Walker

Jane Walker’s visual art practice and research is grounded in sustainable art practice in rural contexts, craft-based research methodologies, and making as a tool for sharing.

Within her practice she experiments with rug hooking and textiles in social contexts. In 2017, she produced a solo exhibition of large-scale works rug-hooked with steel wool, Main Lands and Long Winters commissioned by The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery, and islandness, a social practice project with Shetland-based artist, Vivian Ross-Smith supported by Eastern Edge. Jane is an advocate for place-based supports for rural visual arts through her work on the Bonavista peninsula with the Bonavista Biennale and the development of a new contemporary artspace in Port Union. She has exhibited her work in Canada, the UK, Ireland, and Singapore. Jane lives and works in beautiful Bonavista.
