The VANL-CARFAC Excellence in Visual Arts (EVA) Awards celebrate the achievements of visual artists and recognize the significant contribution the visual arts make to the vibrant and dynamic culture of Newfoundland and Labrador. The 2022 EVA Awards will take place at The Rooms on June 10th 2022.
With the generous support of corporate and community partners, VANL-CARFAC created the annual EVA Awards in 2006 to highlight the creativity and long-term vision of this province’s artists:
The Endurance Award recognizes the consistent dedication and commitment of an artist to their professional practice, and to sustained creative output and performance.
The Milestone Award celebrates a visual artist who has, in the last two calendar years (2019 and 2020), achieved a significant milestone in their career, through exhibition or presentation, a breakthrough in their practice, or new and innovative exploration.
The Emerging Visual Artist Award honours the promising start made by an emerging visual artist in the early stages of their career.
The Mary MacDonald Award is named to honour Newfoundland and Labrador’s beloved arts administrator, curator and writer Mary MacDonald, who has gone too soon from this world. She demonstrated unfailing belief and support for the work of artists and arts organizations as being absolutely necessary and essential. This award thanks an individual or organization whose efforts have helped to sustain and build the visual arts sector.
The Critical Eye Award recognizes the impact that critical art writing can have on a visual artists’ career. Any writer worldwide who has published a piece about a NL artist in any recognized print or online publication during the past calendar year (2021) is eligible for consideration.
Cash prizes of $2000 are attached to the awards, except the Mary MacDonald Award, whose recipient receives $1000 and an original work of art.
