Recipient of the 2019 Cox & Palmer Pivotal Point Grant Announced Visual Artist, Tanea Hynes, Awarded $5,000

For Immediate Release   St. John’s, NL – December 16th, 2019  Cox & Palmer and Visual Artists Newfoundland and Labrador (VANL-CARFAC) are pleased to announce Tanea Hynes as the recipient of the 2019 Cox & Palmer Pivotal Point Grant.  Hynes, an inter-disciplinary artist from Labrador City, will receive the $5,000 grant to create a new exhibition and accompanying book of photographs, drawings, objects and writing based on her experiences of growing up, working in, leaving, and returning to Labrador City, NL.

“We are delighted to congratulate Ms. Hynes on becoming the 2019 grant recipient,” says Paul McDonald, partner at Cox & Palmer. “To receive such accolades and recognition from her peers within the visual arts community must indeed be a pivotal moment. We wish Ms. Hynes much success with her planned ‘Workhorse’ project and have no doubt it will enhance her portfolio and career as a visual artist.”

The Cox & Palmer Pivotal Point Grant is a funding opportunity offered through VANL-CARFAC for visual artists in Newfoundland and Labrador. It was created to provide financial support for working visual artists who have reached a crucial point in their artistic career and to allow them to evolve their practice and develop their reputation and visibility within the art world.

The jury for the 2019 Cox & Palmer Pivotal Point Grant Award were very pleased to recommend Hynes as this year’s recipient: “This year had a particularly strong group of applicants.  Hynes’ project is very touching and also very complex in the ways it incorporates broader social, political and economic ideas into the work.  We very much appreciated the ways in which this project values the community by presenting the work back to them.  We look forward to seeing this work come to fruition.”
